Sugarcane Polyphenols

Sugarcane polyphenols are highly bioactive plant polyphenols. They can be widely applied in the field of big health foods, including beverages, dairy products, baking, confectionery, and functional foods.

Product Process

Sugarcane polyphenols are derived from sugarcane. After pressing, filtering, and extracting, the excess sugar and salt are removed to obtain sugarcane molasses. Then, using water and ethanol as extraction solvents, the polyphenols are processed through filtration, vacuum concentration, ion exchange, and spray drying to produce a powdered substance.

Product Functions

Sugarcane polyphenols possess high antioxidant properties, can reduce the glycemic index (GI value) of foods and beverages to achieve a low GI claim, and have efficient anti-inflammatory characteristics.

Product Performance

Sugarcane polyphenols are stable, heat-resistant, acid and alkali-resistant, and light-resistant. They have a sweet and astringent flavor, good solubility, and do not contain particulate or fibrous insoluble substances.

Main Mechanisms and Effects of Sugarcane Polyphenols

Mechanism of Lower GI

Sugarcane polyphenols can effectively inhibit the activity of two enzymes in the small intestine (α-glucosidase & α-amylase), thereby affecting the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates (disaccharides and polysaccharides).

Through Caco-2 intestinal cell tests, it has been proven that sugarcane polyphenols can block the active and passive transport of glucose, thus controlling the rate at which glucose enters the bloodstream.

Sugarcane polyphenols can inhibit the absorption of fructose, mainly by inhibiting the expression of the glucose transporter GLUT2.

Sugarcane polyphenols can also help restore the function of damaged pancreatic β-cells to secrete insulin, which is beneficial for controlling type II diabetes.

Antioxidant Capacity

Sugarcane polyphenols are rich in stable small-molecule complex polyphenols extracted from sugarcane, which are easily absorbed and utilized by the human body. They possess outstanding ORAC 6.0 antioxidant capacity and CAA cellular antioxidant activity.

Sugarcane polyphenols can effectively activate the Nrf2-ARE pathway. Once activated, Nrf2 can be expressed in the cell nucleus, thereby producing endogenous antioxidant enzymes to combat oxidative stress.

Anti-inflammatory Effect

Sugarcane polyphenols have excellent anti-inflammatory properties and can effectively inhibit inflammatory signaling pathways and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α, NF-kB, PGE-2, and COX-2.
