l On July 16, 2025, the FDA officially added Gardenia Blue (Genipin Blue) to its list of color additives exempt from certification, approving it for sports drinks, juices, ready-to-drink teas, hard candies, and gummies. This is the first natural blue color from Gardenia jasminoides—a traditional Chinese medicinal edible plant—to enter the U.S. food industry.
